The Tools Behind Every Trip I Plan

These Are the Resources I Use for Every Single Client

I am not recommending these because they look good on a page. These are the actual tools, official sources, and planning resources I use every time I plan a client’s trip. Whether I am checking passport validity rules, verifying entry requirements, or pulling up dining reservation windows, this is where I go. I am sharing them here so you have access to the same starting point I do.

Disclosure: A note before you dive in. Travel requirements change quickly and without notice. Everything on this page links to official government sources or tools I use regularly in my own planning process. Always verify critical information directly with the source before you travel. This page is a starting point, not the final word.

Tools for International Travel

Passports

This is the first thing I check for every international client. Passport validity rules trip up families more than almost anything else. Learn the six-month rule and check your renewal timeline before you do anything else. Button: This Is Where I Go

STEP

I recommend STEP to every client traveling outside the United States. It is free, it takes five minutes, and it connects you to the nearest U.S. Embassy if something goes wrong. There is no reason not to do this.

International Travel Checklist

The U.S. Department of State International Travel Planning page is one of my go-to resources before any international booking. Entry requirements, travel advisories, and local laws. It is all here.

SHERPA

Before any international booking, I pull up SHERPA to verify visa requirements, health documentation, and entry rules for the destination country. Always cross-reference with official government sources.

Domestic Travel

Real ID

Beginning May 7, 2025, a REAL ID-compliant license or another acceptable form of ID is required to board domestic flights. I check this for every client traveling by air. If your license does not have a star in the upper right corner, read this before you travel.

TSA PreCheck

If you travel more than twice a year this is worth every penny. Expedited security lanes, no removing shoes or laptops, significantly faster process through security. I mention this to clients who are frequent travelers on every planning call.

TSA: What Can I Bring

The official TSA guidelines for carry-on and checked bags. I pull this up regularly when clients ask about power banks, medications, strollers, or liquids. Check this before you pack to avoid delays at security.
